5 Things To Do On A Snow Day In

By Iyana Burton on March 22, 2018

March 21 marked the first day of Spring on the calendar; but if you’re in the same city as me, it may not look that way outside your window. The trees are covered in powdered sugar and the beautiful white blanket one envisions after a night of snow has turned into a disgusting blend of gray slush. As I sit in my room stuck inside, I ponder the many ways that I can be utilizing my time. How should I enjoy my snow day off from school? While lying in bed all day with endless cups of cocoa and Netflix is my ideal situation, I want to get something done. Does dreaming of spring break count?

Since I love Netflix and cocoa, here are only five productive things (versus your standard 10) to do when you have a day off:

1) Do a load of laundry

While this seems like the worst thing ever, it isn’t that bad. Going to our parent’s house and dropping off our laundry typically is our go to but with the roads as bad as they are, maybe we should take advantage of that washer/dryer hookup we’ve been walking by for the last four months

2) Start on next week’s homework

In college, the one thing we didn’t learn was that the homework was never-ending. As a junior, I’ve acquired some skills to combat this though. If your homework for the week is complete, pat yourself on the back and get started on some more. Habits like this are especially crucial to form after a break of some sort, but they last forever.

3) Meal Prep, Baby!

I wouldn’t call myself Gordon Ramsey but I do whip up a mean spaghetti and garlic bread. As a vegetarian, it isn’t the easiest thing to go out and find a healthy food option that is actually delicious. Not to mention, handy meal swipes can give “good” reason to eat that burger combo you’ve been ignoring for that spring break body. That’s why getting into the habit of meal prepping can be so important. If you pick one day out of the week to plan your meals for the week, you save not just time but a ton of money.

4) Clean your room

Have you found that your course load has given you no free time to breathe or exist? If the answer is yes, your dorm or your bedroom is probably showing it. Cleaning your room can be a daunting task but when you realize its just a ton of clothes lying around, the job seems much easier. Get your tunes going and time will seem to fly by!

5) Do the dishes

I’m sure we all have that one roommate who doesn’t get the concept of a dishwasher but lucky for you, you have a day off! Doing the dishes takes around 30 minutes to finish but the reward seems so much greater than that. You finally have a clean space to meal prep and you just realized how big your sink actually was now that it isn’t full of the pasta you made two weeks ago. It’s a win-win for everyone.
